Alabama’s Bryce Young on 2021 Iron Bowl rally: ‘I pride myself in those moments’
Bryce Young called the final 95 seconds of the 2021 Iron Bowl “huge for me” during an interview Wednesday leading up to the NFL Draft.
The Alabama quarterback, trailing Auburn by 7 and with College Football Playoff hopes hanging in the balance, engineered a career-defining, 12-play, 97-yard touchdown drive.
The result?
No. 3 Alabama 24, Auburn 22 in four overtimes.
“This was a super (sweet) moment as a team,” Young told ESPN’s “First Take” on Wednesday. “It wasn’t the prettiest game offensively. Our defense did a great job in that game carrying us, but, for me, and us as a team, I pride myself in those moments being someone that has achieved that and that can look toward and -regardless of what happened in the rest of the game – that we‘re good and we’re always in it. It was huge for me, and for the team in a rough game to come back and face adversity in such a rivalry game, it was definitely something I will remember.”

Alabama wideout Ja’Corey Brooks, who entered the game with two catches on the season, came away with the game-tying, 28-yard touchdown catch with 24 seconds left.
Auburn ran out the clock, forcing the first overtime in Iron Bowl history, and Young found John Metchie III for a 2-point conversion in the fourth overtime to win it.

Young entered the weekend as a Heisman Trophy favorite but struggled for much of the game. Through the first three quarters, he completed 12 of 26 passes for 138 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. It was his first interception in his previous 225 pass attempts.
But during the fourth quarter and overtime, Young completed 12 of 22 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns with no picks.
