Alabamaâs Ty Simpson gets TD overturned after dropping ball
Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson will have his name linked to De’Sean Jackson for eternity, which is never a good thing.
Simpson, who took over at halftime for starter Jalen Milroe during Saturday’s blowout win over Chattanooga at Bryant-Denny Stadium, broke loose for an apparent 79-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter. However, replay showed that Simpson dropped the ball at the 1-yard line, as former Cal All-American Jackson and so many others have inexplicably done over the years.
Luckily for Simpson, officials ruled that no one for Chattanooga attempted to recover the ball after it rolled dead. Thus, Alabama was given the ball on the 1-yard and running back Richard Young scored on the next play.
You might have expected Alabama coach Nick Saban to erupt at Simpson on the sideline following his mental error. But Saban stayed calm.
We’ll see what Saban has to say after the game.
