Alabamaâs Nick Saban on Deion Sanders: âHeâs a really good coachâ
Alabama football head coach Nick Saban and Deion Sanders have shared the stage in Aflac commercials. Colorado’s head coach has been in the spots with Saban since he held the same job at Jackson State.
Now, Sanders’ Buffaloes are one of college football’s biggest stories. Colorado is undefeated after beating Colorado State in double overtime on Saturday.
On Wednesday, Saban was asked on the SEC coaches teleconference what he thought of the job Sanders has done.
“I haven’t been able to see him a lot,” Saban said. “Saw a little bit of the game last week against Colorado State, but I have a tremendous amount of respect for Deion Sanders. First, he’s a great person and he’s done a great job of marketing the program to create a lot of national interest.”
The Buffaloes weren’t expected to be as good as they’ve been so far. They opened the season on the road against TCU, which played in the national title game last season, and beat the Horned Frogs 45-42.
Then, Colorado faced Nebraska in Boulder, winning 36-14. Following the win over Colorado State last week, Sanders and company will play at Oregon Saturday.
According to Saban, Sanders isn’t just good at marketing.
“I see their team playing well on the field,” Saban said. “They play with discipline, they do a good job of executing. They’ve been able to score points, play a decent defense, so all those things to me are indicators that he’s a really good coach. I’ve always though that, he’s always been successful, whether it was Jackson State, high school or now at Colorado, his teams have always been well coached.”
