Alabama’s GOP congressmen rallying behind Mike Johnson for House Speaker

Alabama’s Republican members of Congress are getting behind the party’s latest pick for Speaker for the House.

Republicans chose Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana on Tuesday as their latest nominee for House speaker, just hours after an earlier pick abruptly withdrew in the face of opposition from former president Donald Trump.

Elected to Congress in 2016, Johnson is the fourth pick for the job since Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was ousted three weeks ago. A vote is expected later today.

As of Wednesday morning, Johnson appears to be the pick of all of Alabama’s GOP lawmakers:

Alabama’s lone Democratic representative, Terri Sewell, has made her feelings known during the last few speaker votes: Brooklyn Congressman Hakeem Jeffries.
