Alabama woman shot 7-year-old son in head because voices said to send him to heaven, investigator says
A Lawrence County investigator testified Tuesday that a Moulton woman told police she shot her seven-year-old son in the head in August to send him “to Heaven” after hearing voices.
A preliminary hearing for Shannon Renee Karr took place Tuesday before her capital murder case was sent on to a grand jury.
WAAY is reporting that Karr shot her son Malachi on Aug. 4 twice in the head.
According to Capt. Russell Graham of Moulton police, Karr called 911 around 2 a.m. that morning to report that she had shot her son. When officers arrived at the home on Main Street, they found her outside the home. She took them to the boy’s body inside.
Karr told police she had been hearing the voices of a man and a woman, and then felt the devil take her over. She heard the voices tell her to shoot Malachi so he could “go to heaven.”
She told Graham that she had a disagreement with Malachi, who she claims could also hear the voices. As he ran away from her, she shot him, first in the temple, then in the forehead, “so he wouldn’t suffer.”
In the same interview, Karr called Malachi her “heart” and “the love of her life.”
When Graham asked if she needed a snack, he said Karr told him, “I just killed my best friend. I don’t need anything.”
