Alabama woman allegedly beat Walmart shopper with crowbar, attacked another with butcher knife
A 32-year-old woman was arrested by Demopolis police on Tuesday, July 15, after allegedly assaulting a woman with a crowbar and stabbing another man at the local Walmart.
Officers responded to the store, on U.S. Highway 80 West, to what was initially reported as a possible active shooter situation but quickly determined through E-911 dispatchers that someone had been stabbed inside the store, according to a release from the police department.
According to the release, Kierra Carter allegedly came into the store and picked up a crowbar and a butcher knife.
“She then started assaulting a 29-year-old female with the crowbar,” Demopolis Chief of Police Rex Flowers told The Marengo County Leader.
“She then began chasing the female in the store with the crowbar. At this time, a 47-year-old male attempted to take the crowbar away from Carter and was cut in the process.”
Flowers added that Carter was not known by either victim.
After bystanders gave officers a description of the vehicle Carter left in, she was intercepted by some of the officers on Highway 80 while other officers continued to the store to secure the scene and make the building safe, according to the release.
Both victims were transported to Whitfield Regional Hospital.
The female was treated and released, and the male subject was flown by helicopter to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, the release said.
Carter was taken into custody without incident and charged with one count of 1st degree assault and one count of 2nd degree assault, according to court records.
She did not share a motive for her actions, police said.
The case is still under investigation and more charges are possible, Flowers said.
