An elderly woman, Mimi Marquette, was assaulted with a hammer by a woman who left the scene in a vehicle. A witness was able to follow the suspect in their vehicle until officers arrived, police said.
Marquette was transported to Huntsville Hospital to receive treatment.
Hughes, who was identified as the suspect in the assault, was booked into the Morgan County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
