A jury trial was scheduled to begin this morning for a Florence woman accused of beating a four-year-old child and forcing her to eat makeup.

Rebecca Lynn Barnett, 24, was arrested Feb. 11, 2022 and charged with one count of child abuse and one count of third-degree domestic violence, a misdemeanor.

According to court documents, Barnett threatened to kill her child, “cussed” her and made her eat makeup.

Barnett pleaded not guilty following her indictment last year.

She could face anywhere from one to 10 years in prison and up to $15,000 in fines.
