Alabama woman, 5-year-old granddaughter found dead after Texas floods
Rescuers have completed the search for a missing family that was swept away from their riverside cabin in Kerrville in the recent Texas floods.
The bodies of Mobile resident Ileana Santana, 66, and her 5-year-old granddaughter, Mila Rose Santana, were found Tuesday, according to posts from family members on Facebook.
“With a heart full of gratitude we received word that both Ileana Santana and Mila Santana have been located,” wrote Ileana’s daughter Jaimee Santana.
“Our family can now finally lay EVERYONE TO REST TOGETHER! We extend our deepest thanks to everyone near and far for the overwhelming support and prayers. These radiant smiles will forever be etched in our memories.”
Mila and Ileana were the last two members of the Santana family to be found.
The body of Ileana’s husband Eddie Santana, 69, was found on Friday, July 11, and the body of Mila’s mother, Camille Santana, 38, was found Tuesday, July 8.
Camille’s husband, Eddie Santana Jr. was found alive and discharged from a hospital on July 6, according to a previous post from his brother Michael Santana.
As of July 15, the flood is reported to have killed over 120 people, about a third of them children, according to USA Today.
Sarah Marsh, an eight-year-old girl from Mountain Brook, was among the victims.
“Our state is proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with Texas in this critical hour,” Gov. Kay Ivey said in a recent release.
“As long as there’s help to be given, Alabama will be in the fight.”
