Alabama wide receiver Malik Benson enters transfer portal: Report
Alabama wide receiver Malik Benson has enter the transfer portal according to Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer of 247Sports. Benson played one season in Tuscaloosa.
He saw action in all 14 games for Alabama this season. He finished the year with 13 catches for 162 yards and a touchdown.
Benson joined the Crimson Tide as a junior transfer from Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. Before the season, he earned high marks from Nick Saban.
“He’s done a nice job,” Saban said. “He’s a lot more confident, playing faster, catching the ball well. I think he’s a guy that can really make a contribution for us this year.”
Benson was previously a track athlete. Other Alabama players noted his speed before the season began.
“Speed kills,” Cornerback Terrion Arnold said of Benson and fellow UA wide receiver Isaiah Bond. “All I’ll say is speed kills. It’s just speed, speed, speed with those guys. They make us better and they really, really push us.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound wideout hails from Lansing, Kansas. He was a five-star JuCo prospect coming out of Hutchinson.
The 247Sports composite JuCo rankings had Benson as the No. 1 junior college player in the class of 2023. He chose the Crimson Tide over offers from LSU, Tennessee, Georgia and more.
Benson was part of a flurry of Alabama players to hit the portal on Wednesday, after the Crimson Tide’s season ended Monday. Alabama lost to Michigan in overtime of the College Football Playoff semifinals.
For most FBS undergraduate players, the window to enter the transfer portal has closed. However, Alabama players get an extra window due to CFP participation.
