Alabama waterpark to host adults-only night because parents like fun too

Parents, go ahead and call your babysitters, because a popular Alabama waterpark is hosting a special event just for you, and your kids aren’t invited.

Alabama Adventure and Splash Adventure in Bessemer will host its first adults-only waterpark night on May 23 from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. Guests must be 21 or older to enter the park — because why should kids get to have all the fun?

“I think, a lot of time, people think of a water park as something for just kids, but it’s actually really fun for adults too,” said Alex Ramsay, marketing manager for Alabama Adventure and Splash Adventure. “A lot of times though whenever adults, especially adults with kids, visit the park, they can’t enjoy it as much as they maybe could otherwise because they have to be responsible for their children — they’re making sure they know where their kids are, are they having fun and all that kind of stuff. So we came up with the idea of an adults-only night.”

Ramsay said they’re still ironing out the full details of the event, but guests will have access to select areas of the water park, including the wave pool and lazy river, as well as slides like Neptune’s plunge. In addition, there will be a DJ on site with yard games, like cornhole and giant Jenga, set up.

As far as food, the park plans to bring in food trucks for the event, and alcohol sales will be available. The park is also hoping to partner with a local hotel to offer a shuttle service for guests who want to make a full night out of the event.

Ticket prices for the adults-only night haven’t been finalized, but Ramsay said they would be less than the standard admission, which is $45 when purchased at the park, since this is a shorter, water park-only event.

The park first announced the event on its Facebook page on Feb. 27, and the post has since gotten more than 6,000 likes and 4,000 shares. Ramsay said the positive reaction to the event teaser was even more than they were expecting.

“We knew that it would be something that people would be really interested in, but we didn’t know they would be this interested,” said Ramsay. “It’s really getting a good reaction from the community, and we really want to make sure we meet everyone’s expectations.”

Oh, and if you’ve already got plans on May 23, don’t worry too much. Ramsay said he’s hopeful this won’t be the last adults-only night the park hosts.

“If everything goes well, we’re definitely going to do it again,” said Ramsay. “And the question right now is just how often.”
