Alabama was in the running for $56 million Honda Aircraft project

Albertville was considered as a finalist for the building of a long-range light jet by Honda Aircraft, according to the Associated Press.

The project, which will be located in Greensboro, N.C., will generate 280 jobs, WCTI is reporting. Honda Aircraft, which is headquartered at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, will invest another $56 million into the area.

A document summarizing the agreement identified Albertville as a finalist, the AP reported.

The project will produce the proposed HondaJet 2600 model, unveiled two years ago.

The company says the new model is designed to be the world’s first light jet capable of nonstop transcontinental flight across the U.S., with the ability to accommodate up to 11 occupants.

The average salaries for the new jobs will be more than $88,700, according to a news release from Gov. Roy Cooper’s office.

“We are thrilled that North Carolina will be home to the new Honda light jet that represents the next chapter of our skyward mobility,” company CEO Hideto Yamasaki said in a statement.
