Alabama wakes up to freezing temperatures: Which cities were the coldest this morning?

It was a chilly morning across Alabama on Thursday, with freezing temperatures being felt in most of the state.

Some of the lower overnight temperatures, according to National Weather Service data, were 24 degrees in Gadsden and Haleyville. Even Mobile reported an overnight temperature of 31 degrees.

Here is a look at some of the lowest temperatures from midnight until 6 a.m. Thursday:

* Birmingham: 30 degrees

* Decatur: 27 degrees

* Demopolis: 28 degrees

* Dothan: 33 degrees

* Evergreen: 31 degrees

* Gadsden: 24 degrees

* Greenville: 28 degrees

* Haleyville: 24 degrees

* Huntsville: 29 degrees

* Mobile: 31 degrees

* Montgomery: 29 degrees

* Muscle Shoals: 26 degrees

* Ozark: 33 degrees

* Sylacauga: 28 degrees

* Talladega: 27 degrees

* Troy: 29 degrees

* Tuscaloosa: 29 degrees

Temperatures are expected to slowly get warmer over the next few days, according to the weather service.

Highs today will range from the upper 40s and low 50s in north and north-central Alabama to the mid-50s in south and south-central Alabama. (See the forecast for today at the top of this post.)

Tonight is expected to be chilly again, but not quite as cold as last night. Here are the forecast low temperatures:

Continued warmer temperatures are expected through at least Tuesday, according to weather service forecasts.

Off and on rain will be possible in parts of the state from Saturday through Tuesday, but so far no severe weather is expected.

Looking into the future, more warmth (for December) looks possible. The six- to 10-day temperature outlook from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is forecasting slightly higher probabilities (33-40 percent) of above-average temperatures for Alabama from Dec. 17-21:
