Alabama vs Mississippi State live updates, analysis

The Alabama football team is back in Bryant-Denny Stadium to face Mississippi State in a return to SEC West competition. This is Alabama’s shot to right the ship after last week’s 52-49 loss at Tennessee.

The Crimson Tide (6-1, 3-1 SEC) have an open week next Saturday and beat Mississippi State last year in a 49-9 final. The Bulldogs (5-2, 2-2 SEC) have yet to score a touchdown against Alabama in the Mike Leach era after a 2020 shutout in Tuscaloosa.

— Mississippi State ball to open the game. The Bulldogs came out and ran it on two of the first three plays, getting stopped a foot short on third down.

— Alabama WR Jermaine Burton was warming up with the receivers before the entire team took the field. There were questions about his status after Alabama acknowledged it was looking into a video that appeared to show Burton striking a Tennessee fan as the student section rushed the field last Saturday.

— Receiver Tyler Harrell is warming up again. He’s been in uniform for several games this season and Saban said he was available at Tennessee but the Louisville transfer has yet to see action this season.

— Looking at the offensive line, Darrian Dalcourt was snapping with Bryce Young after Seth McLaughlin started at center the last three games.

— Will Anderson, Jordan Battle and Bryce Young are Alabama’s captains.

— Neither NG DJ Dale nor Jaheim Oatis is dressed out for warmups.

— Also in sweatpants instead of full gear: middle linebacker Deontae Lawson. He’s been seeing significant time along with Jaylen Moody.

— Cornerback Eli Ricks was announced with the starters for the first time this season. Terrion Arnold is warming up with the second group.
