Alabama true crime podcaster stunned by Idaho victim’s mother at convention: ‘I needed to keep my mouth shut’

Jacksonville State University applied forensics professor Joseph Scott Morgan got a surprise during a recent lecture on last year’s Idaho quadruple slaying when the mother of one of the victims stood to talk from the audience.

Morgan, host of the “Body Bags” podcast, presented his hour-long lecture, “The Idaho Murders: An Expert Forensic Analysis,” and then turned over the floor for questions. He was speaking Friday to a crowd of more than 3,000 at Orlando’s CrimeCon 2023, according to the New York Post.

That’s when Stacy Chapin, mother of University of Idaho victim Ethan Chapin, stood and identified herself, to a loud gasp of astonishment, followed by applause.

“I want all of you to know that these were four of the greatest kids, and all of the great things that you read about them (are) legitimately true,” Chapin said.

Bryan Kohberger, 28, a graduate student at Washington State University, faces charges in the November 2022 killings of four University of Idaho students: Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Chapin, 20, and Xana Xana Kernodle, 20.

“It’s always been a challenge for me to hear people talk about Ethan who don’t know him,” Chapin said. “I can speak on behalf of my own son, who was an incredible human, and we miss them all terribly…They were amazing, amazing kids in the prime of their life.

Morgan felt the mother “deserved a platform.”

“I knew immediately that I needed to keep my mouth shut at this point,” Morgan told Fox News Digital.

Chapin’s son was spending the night with his girlfriend when they were both killed, along with Kernodle’s housemate and friends Gonclaves and Mogen after a night out in Moscow, Idaho.
