Alabama truck driver wins North Carolina lottery jackpot: How he plans to spend it

Luverne truck driver Jonathan Hodge is in the market for a new home after recently winning $120,000 in the North Carolina lottery.

Driving through the state last week, Hodge bought a Cash 5 ticket and matched all five numbers in the May 8 drawing to win the jackpot.

The odds of matching all five balls are 1 in 962,598, according to the North Carolina lottery website.

“I’ve always said, ‘When it’s my time, then it’s my time,” he told site.

“It was pretty cool.”

After required federal and state tax withholdings, Hodge took home $86,109.

He told North Carolina lottery officials that he plans to use his winnings for a down payment on a house.

“Now I’ll have a nice little cushion,” he said.
