Alabama trooper hospitalized after possible opioid exposure during prisoner transport
An Alabama State Trooper was hospitalized Wednesday after he was apparently exposed to an opioid while transporting a suspect.
The trooper, whose name has not been released, was taking a person to the Macon County Jail just after 11:30 a.m. when the detainee became ill, said ALEA Sgt. Jeremy Burkett.
Medics responded and administered Narcan to the detainee, who was then taken to East Alabama Medical Center for additional treatment.
Shortly after Narcan was administered to the detainee, the trooper also fell ill and was then transported to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika for treatment.
The condition of the trooper was not made available.
