Alabama Theatre 2023 holiday film series: Dates, times, tickets, more
The holiday film series at the Alabama Theatre returns in 2023, with 22 screenings planned for Dec. 8-22. That’s reason to celebrate, if you love seeing Christmas classic and seasonal gems at the historic venue in downtown Birmingham. The annual series is a favorite here, and movie fans get to see the theater decorated in holiday style.
Here’s the full series lineup at the theater, 1817 Third Ave. North:
- Friday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m., “White Christmas.”
- Saturday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m., “The Polar Express,” benefiting Kid One Transport.
- Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m., “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”
- Sunday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m., “Miracle on 34th Street” (1947 version).
- Sunday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m., “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
- Monday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m., “Home Alone.”
- Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m., “Elf.”
- Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m., “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”
- Thursday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m., “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”
- Friday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m., “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
- Saturday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m., Cartoon Matinee Triple Feature (“A Charlie Brown Christmas,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”).

- Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m., “The Santa Clause.”

Doors open one hour before showtime. Each event begins with a sing-along to music performed on the theater’s Mighty Wurlitzer organ.
Tickets for most movies are $10 each, plus service charges, on sale now via Ticketmaster, plus service charges. Tickets are $12 for “The Polar Express,” a benefit screening for Kid One Transport. Admission is free for children age 2 and younger. Seating is general admission: first come, first served.
“This year we are unable to schedule some of our favorites, like ‘A Christmas Story,’ along with a few new titles we hoped to present,” organizers at the theater said via email. “Unfortunately we have to license films from their respective distributors and they are able to pull films from distribution at any time.”
