Alabama-Texas injuries: Latest on Tide DBs Malachi Moore and Jaylen Key
As expected, Alabama defensive back Jaylen Key warmed up about 90 minutes before the No. 3 Crimson Tide hosted No. 11 Texas.
Key, a starting safety, had a sleeve on his back leg during stretches. The UAB transfer was listed as a “game-time decision,” earlier in the week. Senior Malachi Moore and Key were both in full uniform once both teams took the field at approximately 5:30 p.m.
Both Key and Moore left UA’s Week 1 game against Middle Tennessee State with various injuries. Neither practiced until Thursday, head coach Nick Saban said on SEC Nation.
Yet, Alabama appeared more confident in Moore’s status as the week progressed, with ESPN’s Chris Low reporting Friday night that Moore would play.
Kristian Story was next off the bench after Key last week. Story was listed on the second team along with junior DeVonta Smith, who’s been out with a foot injury. If Moore can’t fill his usual spot at star, the Tide could rely on Earl Little II, Louisiana-Lafayette transfer Trey Amos or other underclassmen.
Linebacker Jihaad Campbell missed last week’s game while recovering from a knee scope. Saban said he’d be on track to make his season debut against Texas and warmed up with the linebackers on Saturday.
The Crimson Tide and the Longhorns will kick off at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
