Alabama temperatures could hit 90 degrees this week
Meteorological summer is still weeks away (June 1), but it will definitely feel like summer this week in Alabama. Highs will be well into the 80s for most of the week across most of the state.
And a few spots will see their first 90-degree readings of 2024.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a very warm week for Alabama, but the good news is severe weather will mostly not be a factor for most of the state.
Mostly.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has included part of southwest Alabama in a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather today:
There will be a Level 1 out of 5 risk for isolated severe storms in the areas in dark green today. The rest of the state could get rain and even a storm or two, but no severe weather is expected.Storm Prediction Center
A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible. A complex of storms could make its way into that part of the state later this afternoon, but it is not a sure thing.
Rain will be possible for most of the state later tonight.
Temperatures are expected to remain warm through the week, and the warmest day could be Thursday for much of the state. That’s when the weather service is forecasting highs to reach 90 degrees in parts of south and east Alabama (see the temperature forecast for Thursday at the top of this post).
Highs on Monday are expected to be in the 80s for most of Alabama:

Temperatures are expected to crank up by a few degrees starting on Wednesday, when much of the state could see the mid- to upper 80s:

Highs are expected to remain well into the 80s through the weekend, according to the weather service.
