Alabama storm victim was ‘a great man that lived a simple life’

A Morgan County man killed Friday night after a storm trapped him under a trailer is being remembered by family and friends as a simple man who loved working on cars and took pride in his family.

First responders pulled Kenneth Dale Cooper from the wreckage, according to WAAY.

He was transported to the hospital where he later died, according to the Morgan County Emergency Management Agency. Cooper was 67 and lived in Hartselle.

Cooper is remembered as “a great man that lived a simple life” on a GoFundMe page set up by his family to raise money for funeral expenses.

“He was just Daddy or Papa. He was a hard worker and put down many of the roads that we drive on today and he was so proud of his work,” a tribute read. “He would’ve been working to this day if he hadn’t gotten hurt on the job. Unfortunately, Daddy was living off a fixed income at the time of his passing but would still give the shirt off his back to anyone in need or hurting.

“He loved tinkering on cars or anything with an engine. Most of all Daddy prided himself in his legacies that he leaves behind. Daddy’s children and grandchildren were his whole world whether at the ball field or at home,” the page states.

The storm hit Morgan County hard as it cut through the northern part of Alabama. Officials confirmed tornado sightings in Marion, Moulton, Hebron and Lauderdale County. Huntsville Hospital reportedly sustained damage.

Graveside services for Cooper are scheduled for Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Aldridge Grove Cemetery.
