Alabama softball earns pair of All-SEC 1st team honors, 4 overall selections
Four Alabama softball players earned recognition in the Southeastern Conference’s postseason awards released on Friday.
Pitcher Montana Fouts and infielder Ashley Prange were named to the All-SEC first team while outfielders Jenna Johnson and Larissa Preuitt were second-team honorees. No Crimson Tide players were named to the All-Defensive squad. Alabama now has 117 all-conference accolades in program history, according to team media.
LSU, Georgia and Arkansas led with six overall selections apiece. Skylar Wallace, a fourth-year infielder was named the SEC player of the year with the Florida Gators. Wallace, a native of Etowah, spent her first two seasons with the Crimson Tide before transferring.
It was the fourth time Fouts has been deemed a first-team player. It’s been another stellar year for Alabama’s ace as she’s pitched to a 1.44 ERA and 23-9 record in 40 appearances. Fouts has struck out 311 batters compared to 39 walks allowed and has limited hitters to a .165 batting average while leading the SEC in innings pitched (213.1).
The fifth-year senior has thrown two perfect games this season and a no-hitter. Fouts left Alabama’s SEC tournament contest against Arkansas after slipping and injuring her left leg late in the Tide’s 3-2 extra-inning win.
Prange, a graduate student from New Palestine, Ind., leads UA in OPS (1.066), home runs (15) and RBI (43). She’s 10th in the conference in total bases (100) and a cornerstone of the Tide lineup. Prange has now been a first-team all-conference selection in back-to-back years after transferring from Ohio State.
Johnson is a four-year senior and started 48 games this spring, hitting .281 with three home runs, 25 RBI and 15 runs scored. Since an April 30 win over then-No. 13 LSU, Johnson has gone 7-for-23 while driving in five runs.
Preuitt is a freshman from Hartselle High and has acclimated to the college game well after being named the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2022. Preuitt recorded a .281//341/.701 line with one home run and 18 RBI with six total extra-base hits. She’s also tied for a team-high 11 steals.
Alabama improved to 40-17 in eliminating Arkansas, the defending SEC champions, on Thursday in the SEC tournament. It’ll next play the winner of No. 1 Tennessee and No. 8 Florida on Friday night in the Razorbacks’ Bogle Park.
