Alabama softball announces addition of transfer pitcher Kayla Beaver
In his final postgame press conference of the 2023 season, Alabama softball coach Patrick Murphy hinted at an addition or two from the transfer portal. The first was officially announced on Wednesday.
Kayla Beaver, a fifth-year senior from Central Arkansas, will transfer to the Crimson Tide ahead of “Team 28” and the 2024 season. The Jackson, Tennessee native committed over the weekend after becoming one of the best pitchers in ASun Conference history.
She set a Central Arkansas record in ERA (1.52). Beaver also finished second with 23 shutouts, 514 strikeouts and 74 wins. The finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year should pair well with Jaala Torrence at the top of Alabama’s rotation next spring following the departure of Montana Fouts.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to compete at a high level with this amazing team, family and coaches! I have dreamed about wearing an Alabama jersey since I was eight years old. I cannot wait to grow as a player and a person alongside these amazing athletes and the Alabama softball family,” Beaver said in a statement released by UA.
Beaver has one year of eligibility remaining. She’s the second transfer in the class along with Des Moines Area Community College utility player Kendal Clark. Alabama is also welcoming freshman pitcher Jocelyn Briski and outfielder Lauren Johnson, younger sister of the Tide’s Jenna Johnson.
Murphy: “We are so excited that Kayla will be joining us for her final year of softball. She will give us a power right arm and tremendous experience in the circle.”
