Alabama shooting suspect captured after high-speed chase through 2 counties
A Selma shooting suspect is in custody after leading police on a high-speed chase.
Jason Craig, 38, of Orville, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after a chase from Dallas County into Perry County.
Police initially announced the end of the pursuit with a Facebook post that simply read: “We got him!”
The investigation began Tuesday when Selma officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of North Lauderdale Street on a report of someone shot. They arrived to find the victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, remains in critical condition.
Authorities identified Craig as the suspect.
On Thursday, officers responded to a harassment call in the area of Old Montgomery Road, and quickly learned Craig was the reported offender.
Police spotted Craig’s vehicle and attempted to stop him, but he fled.
The chase exceeded speeds of 100 mph, police said. It ended when officers boxed in Craig’s vehicle.
Craig is charged with attempted murder, felony attempting to elude, resisting arrest, reckless driving, driving without a license, DUI, duty upon striking fixture and driving on the opposite side of the highway.
