Alabama sets school record for sacks allowed in a season

Alabama set a dubious school record in the first half vs. Michigan in Monday’s Rose Bowl.

The Crimson Tide gave up five sacks in the first two quarters, bringing the season total to 48. That’s the most any Alabama team has allowed since team sacks became an official statistic in 1980.

The previous record was 43, first set in 1996 and tied by this year’s team in the SEC championship game. The only other seasons Alabama has allowed 40 or more sacks before this year were 1993 (42), 1994 (41) and 1996.
