Alabama Roots: Top 10 in NFL money

Alabama Roots: Top 10 in NFL money

Former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts signed a five-year, $255 million contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason that could have him on his way to becoming the highest-paid NFL player from an Alabama high school or college.

In terms of the value of his contract, he already is. But in money that he’s received from the Eagles, he hasn’t cracked the top 10 yet of the highest-paid NFL players from Alabama high schools and colleges.

Like the 12 players in NFL history who have received the most money from their teams during their careers, Hurts is a quarterback. But only two of the 10 highest-paid NFL players with Alabama football roots are quarterbacks, including No. 1 Philip Rivers, who is No. 9 on the league’s all-time list.

The Alabama top 10 also includes three wide receivers, two cornerbacks, one center, one defensive tackle and one outside linebacker.

The NFL player from an Alabama high school or college who was paid the most in 2022 was Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill (West Alabama), who got $26.855 million in the first season of a four-year, $120 million contract that included a $25.5 million signing bonus.
