Alabama Roots: Top 10 in NFL all-purpose yards
The 10 players from Alabama high schools and colleges with the most NFL all-purpose yards can be divided into three groups – three who got the bulk of their yards on receptions, four who got the bulk of their yards on rushing attempts and three who fit the classic triple-threat mold associated with the statistic.
And two in the latter group are unique in NFL history.
All-purpose yards include the yards gained by a player on offense rushing and receiving (along with the occasional run after recovering a teammate’s fumble) and special-teams yards picked up on kickoff and punt returns.
Terrell Owens, the leader in NFL all-purpose yards for players with Alabama football roots, Julio Jones and Roddy White have a lopsided arrangement of their yardage through the air as wide receivers.

Shaun Alexander, Mark Ingram, Stephen Davis and Derrick Henry got the preponderance of their yardage on the ground as running backs.
But James Brooks, Tyreek Hill and Joe Cribbs did some of everything to pile up their all-purpose yardage.
During his career, Brooks had 7,962 rushing yards, 3,621 receiving yards, 2,762 kickoff-return yards and 565 punt-return yards. He’s the only player in NFL history who has produced that many yards in those four categories.
Hill also has a unique all-purpose profile. The Miami Dolphins wide receiver has 8,340 receiving yards, 1,005 punt-returns and 751 rushing yards so far in his NFL career. No other player in NFL history can match that production in all three categories.

Hill and Henry joined the Alabama Roots all-purpose top 10 during the 2022 season.
Hill debuts at No. 6 after 1,795 all-purpose yards last season boosted his career total to 10,540. Henry is at No. 9 with 9.573 all-purpose yards after he finished second in the NFL with 1,930 in 2022.
Like Henry, the NFL leader in all-purpose yards last season also was a former Alabama running back. Josh Jacobs had 2,053 all-purpose yards for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, when he was the NFL’s leading rusher, too.
With Hill and Henry joining the list, John Stallworth (Tuscaloosa, Alabama A&M) and Tony Nathan (Woodlawn, Alabama) were pushed out of the top 10.
