Alabama Roots: 6 draft picks sign NFL contracts
During the NFL Draft on April 27-29, 259 players were selected. On Friday, 110 of them signed an NFL contract for the first time, according to team announcements.
The signing group included six players from Alabama high schools and colleges – Cincinnati Bengals safety Jordan Battle (Alabama), Atlanta Falcons safety DeMarcco Hellams (Alabama), Jacksonville Jaguars running back Tank Bigsby (Auburn), San Francisco 49ers cornerback Darrell Luter Jr. (South Alabama), Arizona Cardinals linebacker Owen Pappoe (Auburn) and Houston Texans linebacker Henry To’oTo’o (Alabama).

Drafted players receive four-year contracts. The values of those contracts are based on draft position, the NFL’s salary cap of $224.8 million for the 2023 season and this year’s rookie compensation pool in a formula spelled out in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the league and its players association.
While terms were not announced, the values of the contracts can be estimated, which the sports financial website spotrac.com has done:
· Battle was the 95th player selected, which carries a four-year contract worth an estimated $5.325 million, including a $872,739 signing bonus.

· Bigsby was the 88th player selected, which carries a four-year contract worth an estimated $5.393 million, including a $922,121 signing bonus.

· Hellams was the 224th player selected, which carries a four-year contract worth an estimated $3.946 million, including a $106,300 signing bonus.
· Luter was the 155th player selected, which carries a four-year contract worth an estimated $4.154 million, including a $313,512 signing bonus.
· Pappoe was the 168th player selected, which carries a four-year contract worth an estimated $4.085 million, including a $244,976.
· To’oTo’o was the 167th player selected, which carries a four-year contract worth an estimated $4.085 million, including a $244,977 signing bonus.
Players with Alabama football roots from the 2023 NFL Draft who already had signed their contracts included Chicago Bears defensive tackle Travis Bell (Jeff Davis) and Green Bay Packers kicker Anders Carlson (Auburn), wide receiver Grant DuBose (Park Crossing) and defensive tackle Colby Wooden (Auburn).
