Alabama rises in coaches top 25 poll rankings after WKU win
Alabama football opened the Kalen DeBoer era with a bang on Saturday, beating Western Kentucky 63-0 at Bryant-Denny Stadium. On Tuesday, the Crimson Tide was rewarded for its efforts.
UA moved up a spot in the USA Today coaches top 25 poll, jumping to No. 4. Oregon took a slide from fourth to sixth after struggling mightily with an FCS Idaho squad.
Georgia remained No. 1 when the poll updated. Both the coaches and media polls changed on Tuesday instead of Sunday as is custom, waiting out the Florida State- Boston College matchup Monday night.
The Seminoles took an enormous tumble in the coaches poll rankings, falling from 10th to out of the top 25. FSU lost to both Georgia Tech and Boston College since the preseason rankings were unveiled in August.
Ohio State ranks second, and Texas is the only other team sitting ahead of the Crimson Tide, in third place. Ole Miss moved up to fifth after beating Furman, one spot ahead of the Ducks.
Notre Dame was ranked No. 7, while Penn State, Michigan and Missouri rounded out the top 10. Louisville and Washington moved into the top 25, as both Florida State and Texas A&M, which fell at home to Notre Dame on Saturday, dropped out.
In other SEC news, LSU took a huge tumble after losing to Southern Cal in Las Vegas. While the Trojans jumped nine spots to No. 14, Brian Kelly’s Tigers fell to No. 19, after being ranked 12th initially.
The coaches poll voting group for the 2024 season includes both DeBoer, and Western Kentucky head coach Tyson Helton.
