Alabama releases NCAA violations report, details Level 3 infractions
Alabama Athletics released its annual self-reported violations summary on Friday afternoon. The nine infractions largely included situations where UA had impermissible contact with a recruit.
The offenses, dated from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, are categorized as Level 3 “Breach of Conduct,” or a step above an incidental issue. The men’s basketball team had two violations, down one from last year, and tied for the most along with track and field.
According to the University, a prospective student-athlete was involved in a “game day simulation” while on an unofficial visit on September 13. The school rectified the issue by cutting two “recruiting person-days” and providing education to Nate Oats’ staff. UA also issued a letter of admonishment to the director of player development Christian Pino.
Other recruiting violations included:
- A women’s tennis volunteer coach attending a signing event.
- A track recruit snapping a photo with a professional track athlete that happened to be on campus during the recruit’s official visit.
- A member of the women’s rowing staff commented on a social media account of a prospective student-athlete.
- A women’s soccer coach had an on-campus interaction with a prospect’s parent in an illegal window.
The report also stated that five members of the men’s indoor track team were not given a required day off in June 2022. Among the corrective actions taken was an additional 16 off days for those students.
No football violations were listed.
