Alabama quarterback Eli Holstein enters transfer portal: Report
Alabama football quarterback Eli Holstein has entered the transfer portal according to 247Sports. Holstein did not appear in a game for Alabama this season.
The news of Holstein’s impending departure came after it was reported that Crimson Tide backup Ty Simpson is expected to remain at Alabama. The move made for a crowded room at the position, with Jalen Milroe returning, five-star Julian Sayin joining up, and the intentions of Dylan Lonergan unclear.
Holstein joined Alabama as a four-star prospect from Zachary in Louisiana. He was the No. 8 quarterback in the class of 2023 according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
He chose Alabama over offers from Auburn, Arkansas and Texas A&M among others. He was one of a flurry of Alabama players to hit the portal on Wednesday.
Alabama’s season came to an end on Monday when the Crimson Tide lost to Michigan in overtime of the College Football Playoff semifinals. Though the transfer portal entry window for most FBS players ended, Alabama’s get an extra window after participating in the CFP.
The 6-foot-4, 237 pound Holstein becomes the second quarterback to leave Alabama this offseason. Tyler Buchner already announced his intentions to leave the Crimson Tide and football in order to play lacrosse at Notre Dame.
