Alabama police officer on administrative leave after sexual misconduct arrest
A Madison police officer is on administrative leave following his arrest on charges of sexual misconduct.
Madison Police Officer Kevin Walter, 35, of Harvest, was arrested earlier this month.
WAAY is reporting that Walter was placed under administrative leave, pending further information.
“The city of Madison is aware of an investigation of a current city of Madison police officer through a case under Madison County jurisdiction,” the city said in a statement to the station. “The city is actively working with county officers to support any needs through the investigation.”
Walter’s arrest was announced by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Monday. The department led the investigation because the incident involved an off-duty police department employee, officials said in a statement.
It then forwarded the case to the Madison County district attorney, with a grand jury indicting Walter on sexual misconduct charges.
The complaint filed against Walter showed the officer allegedly had sex with the female victim “without her consent,” according to court records.
The alleged victim and the officer knew each other, according to the sheriff’s office.
Walter was taken to the Madison County Jail on Feb. 8 and was released the same day after posting $1,000 bond. The officer was also ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.
