Alabama police officer among 2 injured by gunfire in bank robbery that ended with suspect dead

Florence police were on the scene Tuesday afternoon of a shooting which injured a police officer, a bystander and left the suspect dead Tuesday afternoon.

Police on social media instructed motorists to avoid U.S. 72 near Shoals Outdoor Sports, as it is closed following a shooting.

Multiple media outlets are reporting two people were shot following a bank robbery at about 3 p.m.

WHNT is reporting that the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, responding on a welfare check, found a person armed with a handgun who robbed the PNC Bank on Cox Creek Parkway.

After officers spotted the person, a chase began, which ended when officers then pinned the car at the intersection of Florence Boulevard and Rivermont Road, according to WAFF.

The person being pursued began firing shots, and an officer was hit in the shoulder. A bystander was also shot.

The suspect in the robbery is dead, according to authorities.
