Alabama offensive lineman transferring to Florida; had visited Auburn

Alabama junior offensive lineman Damieon George, who said the day after the Iron Bowl in November he was entering the transfer portal, announced Monday that he is transferring to Florida.

George revealed his school choice on Instagram after sharing over the weekend that he was visiting Gainesville. George visited Auburn earlier this month, he told 247 Sports and On3 Sports, and also posted on social media from Oxford, Mississippi in early January.

Said George to 247 Sports and On3 Sports about Auburn: “It was a nice visit, I seen a lot of things I liked about the school and definitely one of my choices. For one, the new facility really stuck out to me. I came here a long time ago when I was in high school and it was way different from what it is today. Also just the environment, the people around. I feel like they treat me like I’m part of the family and I really don’t know these guys that much but I just can feel it.”

The 6-foot-6, 339-pound George was a three-star recruit in 247 Sports’ composite ranking for the 2020 class. The Houston native was a backup right tackle for Alabama but made three starts at that position during the 2021 season. He appeared in 17 total games for the Tide, including the first two of the 2022 season before not appearing in the final 10 of the regular season.

George is one of 13 scholarship players from Alabama to enter the transfer portal since the start of the 2022 regular season. The window for undergraduate football players to enter the portal ends Wednesday and will not reopen until April 15.

With George’s commitment, only wide receiver Tyler Harrell remains in the transfer portal for Alabama. The fifth-year senior announced Saturday he was entering the portal.
