Alabama OC explains Ryan Williams, Germie Bernard’s jump-shot motion on QB sneak

At one point late in the first half against Tennessee, quarterback Jalen Milroe attempted to rush for a first down on fourth-and-1.

He converted, and right as he did, receivers Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard did something unusual.

They can be seen in the background of the play mimicking a jump shot, as if they were in a basketball game. Both lined up on the right side of the offense and weren’t really part of the play considering it was a quarterback sneak.

Alabama football offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan was asked Monday about Williams and Bernard mimicking a jump shot on that play.

“There‘s nothing on the field we’re not coaching,” Sheridan said. “That’s how I would answer that.”

The quarterback sneak gave Alabama the ball on Tennessee‘s 36-yard line with 54 seconds left before halftime. Alabama didn’t convert another first down, and kicker Graham Nicholson ended up missing a 54-yard kick right before halftime.

Alabama went on to lose the game 24-17 to the Vols. Williams and Bernard mimicking a jump shot didn’t really have much impact on the outcome, but it was something that caught the eye nonetheless.
