Alabama NFL roundup: Packers overpower 49ers with Josh Jacobs

Running back Josh Jacobs powered the Green Bay Packers to their sixth victory in their past seven games by scoring three touchdowns in a 38-10 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Packers lost to the 49ers 24-21 in the second round of the NFC playoffs last season but added Jacobs as a free agent in the offseason. Jacobs ran for 106 yards on 26 carries on Sunday at Lambeau Field.

According to the NFL’s Next Gen Stats, Jacobs caused 15 missed tackles by San Francisco, the most of any ball-carrier in an NFL game this season.

All of Jacobs’ touchdowns came on 1-yard runs. His first touchdown stretched Green Bay’s lead to 17-0 with 6:33 left in the first half, the second moved the margin to 24-7 with 4:28 left in the third quarter and the final TD put the Packers in front 31-10 with 10:59 remaining.

Jacobs has had two other games with three touchdowns while playing for the Las Vegas Raiders – a 34-30 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 13, 2020, and a 38-20 victory over the Houston Texans on Oct. 23, 2022.

Jacobs’ third 100-yard game of the season was the 20th of his career.

Jacobs was among the 37 former Alabama players who got on the field on the 12th Sunday of the NFL’s 105th season.

One other former Alabama player was involved in the San Francisco-Green Pay game:

  • Xavier McKinney started at safety for the Packers. McKinney made three tackles, intercepted one pass and broke up another one. McKinney’s seventh interception of the season tied him for the NFL lead with Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph. McKinney picked off San Francisco quarterback Brandon Allen for his 16th career interception and returned it 48 yards to the 49ers 26-yard line to set up a third-quarter touchdown. The return was the longest of McKinney’s career.
