Alabama NFL roundup: Cooper, Ford pace Cleveland Browns

Amari Cooper and Jerome Ford had the Cleveland Browns rolling in a 27-3 victory over the Tennessee Titans. On the other side of the field on Sunday, Derrick Henry was doing anything but that.

Cooper had seven receptions for 143 yards and one touchdown. The wide receiver caught a 43-yard pass from quarterback Deshaun Watson for the game’s final touchdown with 6:51 to play. Cooper recorded his 31st regular-season game with at least 100 receiving yards, and the TD catch was the 56th of his career. Cooper has scored the seventh-most NFL touchdowns among Alabama’s alumni.

Ford made the first start of his NFL career with Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb shelved by a knee injury suffered on Monday night. Ford entered that game, ran for 106 yards and scored his first NFL touchdown in Cleveland’s 26-22 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Against Tennessee, Ford didn’t have that kind of production on the ground, but he still scored two touchdowns. Ford ran for 18 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries and caught two passes for 33 yards and one touchdown. Ford had a 19-yard TD reception from quarterback Deshaun Watson as Cleveland took a 10-3 lead with 9:39 left in the first half and ran 3 yards for the first rushing touchdown of his career as the Browns went up 20-3 with 5:49 remaining in the third quarter.

A two-time NFL rushing champion, Henry ran for 20 yards on 11 carries against Cleveland. Henry recorded his fewest rushing yards since he became Tennessee’s starting running back in 2018.
