Alabama native drowns in Hawaii; family raises funds to bring his body home

An Alabama native who gave himself the nicknames “Ocean” and “Wavy” because of his love for the water drowned Sunday in Hawaii, leading his family to raise money to bring his body home to Mobile.

Octavian Sigler, 26, was born and raised in Alabama but was living in Hawaii when he drowned Sunday, according to his sister, LaTonya Sigler, who organized a GoFundMe for her brother.

A bystander found Octavian Sigler dead in the water off Honolulu, according to his sister.

He moved to Oahu in 2022, LaTonya Sigler told Hawaii News Now.

“When he comes in the room, you’re gonna feel his energy. He was so bubbly. He was just outgoing. He was so loving. Anyone that knew him would just say he was so sweet,” she told the outlet.

“He called himself ‘Ocean’ and ‘Wavy’ because he loved the water,” she added. “And that’s just his personality.”

Sigler created a GoFundMe so her brother’s body could be sent to Mobile, where Octavian Sigler was born and raised, for a “homegoing celebration.”

The crowdfunding effort surpassed its goal of $10,000.
