Alabama motor manufacturer laying off half its workforce

An Alabama manufacturer is laying off about 73 workers in July.

According to a notice on Alabama’s WARN list, Globe Motors of Dothan will make the changes at its plant on Napier Field Road.

The layoffs will begin July 25, according to the notice.

Globe Motors designs, manufactures, and distributes precision, subfractional horsepower motors and motorized devices, according to a description on the website.

WTVY in Dothan is reporting that the layoffs represent about half of the plant’s workforce of about 160 people.

Attempts to contact Globe Motors’ parent company, Allied Motion, were not immediately successful.

Other companies have announced layoffs in Alabama this month, including Oracle, Amcor, and Bilfinger.
