An Alabama meteorologist was arrested over the weekend on a second-degree stalking charge.

WDHN weekend meteorologist Andrew Clarke was booked into the Dothan City Jail just after 11 p.m. Saturday. WTVY reported that Clarke was arrested just a half hour after he appeared on the station’s 10 p.m. newscast.

WDHN did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Dothan police Lt. Ronald Hall said a patrol officer took a report from the victim and then she obtained the warrant through municipal court.

Under Alabama law, a person commits the crime of second-degree stalking if he or she, acting with an improper purpose, intentionally and repeatedly follows, harasses, telephones, or initiates communication, verbally, electronically, or otherwise, with another person, any member of the other person’s immediate family, or any third party with whom the other person is acquainted, and causes material harm to the mental or emotional health of the other person, or causes such person to reasonably fear that his/her employment, business, or career is threatened, and the perpetrator was previously informed to cease that conduct.

The victim alleges the 23-year-old Clarke repeatedly showed up at the restaurant where she is a server, would request her table and then stay for hours. He also reportedly showed up in the parking lot of her apartment complex.

The two did not know each other and had never been in any kind of a relationship.

Second-degree stalking is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by not more than six months in jail and a $3,000 fine.
