Alabama men’s basketball officially adds 2 recruits from class of 2024

Alabama men’s basketball officially added two pieces of its future on Thursday. Both of its eligible class of 2024 prospects signed and submitted their national letters of intent.

Aiden Sherrell became the Crimson Tide’s fifth-highest rated recruited in program history according to 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-10, 225-pound big is head coach Nate Oats’ fifth five-star signed to UA.

“Aiden is a hybrid forward who possesses great size and ability. Aiden is able to make plays off the bounce and stretch the floor with his three-point shooting. Not only is he versatile on offense, but he is a great rim protector on defense. He fits the mold of the past four-men we have had in this program in Noah Clowney and Jarin Stevenson,” Oats said in a statement released by UA.

The Detroit, Mi., native is ranked as the fourth-best center in the country and the 21st-rated player overall. He committed on Sept. 26, picking Alabama over Oklahoma, Ohio State and others. He scored 18.8 points per game in the Overtime Elite League.

Naas Cunningham was the Tide’s other commit added. A four-star, Cunningham is rated as the 12th-best small forward at 6-foot-7 and a top-50 player. Cunningham verbally committed on Tuesday.

Per Oats: “Naas is an elite athlete with over a 40-inch vertical and moves really well for a 6-8 guard. In addition to his athleticism, Naas is an exceptional shot-maker who can guard multiple positions on the defensive end and can play in a multitude of ways on offense. He will be a perfect fit in our system because of how elite he is in the open court. He fits the mold of big wings on the perimeter that we have had here recently that are now in the NBA.”

Cunningham is from West Orange, N.J., and was a finalist for the USA U16 National team in 2021. He picked the Tide over Duke, Missouri and others.

Oats told reporters on Thursday that the Tide will look to add two or three more prospects either from high school or the transfer portal to next year’s roster. Current freshman Jarin Stevenson, who would’ve joined Sherrell and Cunningham next season, reclassified and is expected to compete for minutes in the Tide’s big rotation this winter.

247Sports composite ranks the class 20th overall, and second in the SEC behind Missour’s five four-stars.
