Alabama man, woman arrested after shootings, stabbing of dog
A man and a woman are facing several charges in Lawrence County after two shooting incidents Saturday.
Todd Lee Hood, 30, of Russellville, was taken into custody that afternoon, along with Ashley Romans, 35, also of Russellville.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office said the arrests stemmed from incidents that began around 3:43 p.m. in the 6500 block of Alabama 24 in the Mount Hope area. Deputies responded to a report of a man getting out of a vehicle and opening fire – on a residence and a vehicle – from the road.
Deputies then began a search for a vehicle meeting the description provided by a witness to the shooting.
At about 5:12 p.m., authorities received another report of a similar vehicle stopped in front of a residence on County Road 374 in the Hillsboro area.
Witnesses said a man – later identified as Hood – got out of a vehicle and went up to the residence, forcibly entered it, and caused damage to the property. He also fatally stabbed the homeowner’s dog.
A concerned neighbor drove up to the man’s vehicle and was confronted by him. The man threatened the neighbor, took out his weapon and opened fire. The neighbor was not struck. Authorities say Hood then tried to flee in his vehicle, with his intended victim pursuing him and calling dispatchers.
Authorities say the vehicle was stopped in the Langton area by deputies and Moulton police.
According to investigators, the shooting at the first house occurred at a home believed to belong to an ex-boyfriend of Romans, while the County Road 374 incident happened at what is believed to be the residence of the father and grandparents of Romans’ child.
Hood has been charged with attempted murder, two counts of reckless endangerment, third degree burglary, second degree criminal mischief, aggravated animal cruelty, shooting into an occupied vehicle, shooting into an occupied residence, shooting into an unoccupied vehicle, along with alcohol and firearms charges. Bail has not yet been set.
Romans has been charged with open container of alcohol and illegal possession of tax paid alcoholic beverages, and has a $2,000 bond. Other charges are expected, the sheriff’s office said.
