Alabama man sought in connection with father’s shooting death

Jackson County authorities are searching for a man in connection with the shooting death of his father Monday.

Dispatchers received a call Monday at 6:37 p.m. about a shooting on County Road 147 in Stevenson, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

County deputies, and police officers from Stevenson and Hollywood responding found Jack Edward Thompson, 54, of Stevenson, lying on the front porch at the residence.

He died at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators are searching for his son, Jacob Tyler Thompson, 26, of Stevenson, in connection with the shooting.

Thompson is described as standing 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a camouflage shirt with a skull emblem.

Sheriff’s investigators say Thompson should be considered armed and dangerous and is possibly still in possession of a weapon. He has connections to Stevenson, Bridgeport, and Jasper, Tenn.

The public should not attempt to engage Thompson, the sheriff’s office said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at (256) 574-2610 or their local law enforcement agency.
