Alabama man sentenced to 80 years on federal child exploitation charges

A federal judge this week handed down an 80-year prison sentence to a Madison County man on charges of child sexual exploitation.

Kevin Alexander Guerrero-Beltran, 32, pleaded guilty to transportation and distribution of child pornography back in January. U.S. District Judge Liles Burke also ordered Guerrero-Beltran to pay $11,000 in restitution to the victims.

U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona, FBI Special Agent-in-Charge Carlton Peeples, and U.S. ICE Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent-in-Charge Katrina Berger announced the sentence today in a press release.

Characterized as a “serial offender” by Peeples, Guerrero-Beltran was arrested in May 2019 and was previously convicted of traveling to meet a child for a sex act in Marshall County.

He was on state probation at the time he committed these federal offenses, according to prosecutors. Guerrero-Beltran was released from state prison on May 28, 2020. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children issued a cyber tip involving him sending an image of child sexual abuse material on Snapchat three months later.

According to court documents, Guerrero-Beltran became the administrator of an online exchange of child sexual abuse material in October 2020, and over a week in 2021, he was in communication with another person, inquiring about having sex with an 8-year-old girl.

“This defendant has proven that he will continue to abuse and sexually exploit children,” Escalona said in a statement. “The sentence imposed ensures that Guerrero-Beltran will spend the rest of his life in prison.”

The case involved the FBI Birmingham’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, FBI Phoenix Division, ICE Homeland Security Investigations, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Huntsville police, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
