Alabama man out on bond tried to kidnap jogger for sexual assault, police say

A man is in the Marshall County jail on charges of kidnapping for sexual assault, according to jail records.

Christopher Lee Gamel, 35, of Joppa, was arrested early Tuesday. He is being held on $100,000 bond.

Arab Police Chief Shane Washburn said Gamel was arrested in connection with an incident early Sunday morning in Arab.

According to police, a female victim was jogging on Second Avenue Northwest at about 5:15 a.m. when a man pulled over, got out of his white Toyota Camry, and brandished a gun.

According to the woman, the man said, “I have a gun, get in the car.”

The woman was able to escape and identified the vehicle. Security footage from a nearby church helped identify the vehicle, Washburn said.

Gamel was arrested in Albertville.

According to court records, Gamel was indicted last year in Cullman County for first degree sexual abuse. A motion has been filed to revoke his bond.
