Alabama man indicted for allegedly killing lover with hammer inside business
A grand jury indicted a north Alabama man with murder for allegedly killing his lover with a hammer over the summer at a Tuscumbia packaging plant where they both worked.
Victor Manuel Funez Cruz, 59, of Muscle Shoals, allegedly told police he was arguing over “jealousy/infidelity” with Edith Margarita Martinez when he beat Martinez with a hammer and then a metal pipe inside McVantage Packaging on July 11, according to court records.
Case records showed a Colbert County grand jury indicted Cruz on murder charges.
Officers arriving at the business on U.S. 43 in Tuscumbia on the day of the slaying found Martinez lying on the ground dead with severe head injuries.
An officer said he found Martinez “not moving with a huge pool of blood by her head,” according to an affidavit filed in the case.
Cruz allegedly told police Martinez first swung a metal pipe at him. He then became angry and reached for a hammer and hit Martinez with it.
The hammer handle broke, Cruz allegedly told police, and he then allegedly started striking Martinez with a metal pipe.
Both Cruz and Martinez worked at the plant but had different duties.
