Alabama man high on mushrooms with parrot on his shoulder tased by Florida deputies
An Alabama man told deputies he was high on mushrooms after they found him inside his vehicle — with a parrot on his shoulder and surrounded by several weapons.
The incident began with a call to dispatchers Friday from a homeowner on Elkcam Road in Washington County, southwest of Marianna, Fla.
The homeowner said a vehicle was outside the home and the driver was banging on their front door, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The homeowner asked the man to leave, but he remained.
When deputies arrived, they found the suspect vehicle.
The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Timothy Brandon Bowers of Elba, Ala., was sitting inside with what deputies described as a “blank look on his face” and a parrot on his shoulder.
Bowers also had several weapons deputies could see inside the vehicle and Bowers at that point Bowers was asked to exit the vehicle.
According to the sheriff’s office, Bowers became uncooperative and combative, failing to follow deputies’ instructions and physically resisting arrest. He was ultimately tased and restrained by the deputies.
Once Bowers was in custody, he advised deputies “there was nothing wrong with him, he was just high and his drug of choice was mushrooms,” according to the WCSO. Deputies searched his vehicle, locating several “illegal items.”
The parrot, meanwhile, was placed in a pet carrier and taken into custody by Washington County Animal Control.
Bowers was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.
Once he was released, he was taken to the Washington County Jail, where he remained as of midday Monday, charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, possession of drug paraphernalia and trespassing.
