Alabama man freed in womanâs 2008 slaying reportedly dead by suicide after pregnant womanâs stabbing
A capital murder suspect accused of killing a pregnant woman in east Alabama died by suicide in his cell early Sunday morning, according to a report.
CNAW 2 News reported Sunday that Bradley Stokes, was pronounced dead just before 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
Stokes was arrested in connection to the killing of Treasure Hennessy, 37, earlier this month. Hennessy was allegedly hiding from Stokes in a fire station before he allegedly fatally stabbed her. She was eight months pregnant at the time.
Stokes was recently freed after serving 14 years of a 16-year prison sentence for federal gun charges and manslaughter.
According to court records, Stokes in 2010 pleaded guilty in the 2008 shooting death of Crystal Lynn Bailey. The 21-year-old Phenix City woman was survived by her son, an obituary for Bailey states.
In late August, Hennessy — who had been dating Stokes — reportedly moved out of his residence and was given permission to stay at the Fort Mitchell Fire Station as a “safe house” from Stokes.
Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor said deputies responded to “at least two” domestic violence calls filed by Hennessy against Stokes in the months before she died.
Taylor said authorities believe Stokes found out where Hennessy was staying.
According to CNAW, Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry, Jr., confirmed Stokes’ death, and confirmed the cause of death as suicide.
No more information was available early Sunday morning.
