An Alabama man died late Friday night following a major car accident on U.S. Highway 278 in Winston County.

Seth R. Urfer, 34, of Houston was critically injured when the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche that he was driving left the roadway, struck a road sign, overturned, then struck another road sign and caught fire, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Prior to the Chevrolet catching fire, Urfer was ejected. He was later transported to the Cullman Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries while being treated.

Officers say Urfer was not using his seat belt at the time of crash.

The crash occurred near Glover Road, approximately two miles west of Addison in Winston County.
