Alabama man charged with murder in 2022 crash death of pregnant woman
An Athens man faces multiple charges in connection with the 2022 death of a pregnant Illinois woman in a car crash in Alabama.
Hayden B. Rose, 21, was arrested on Christmas Day, according to court records. A Limestone County grand jury charged him with two counts of reckless murder, two counts of reckless manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, and a charge of driving under the influence.
Laurina Hernandez, of Quincy, Illinois, was a passenger in a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe that Rose was driving when the crash happened around 2 a.m. on Oct. 21, 2022, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Troopers said the vehicle struck a ditch and flipped over near Athens.
First responders took Hernandez to a hospital, where she died of her injuries. She was not wearing a seatbelt, troopers said. Hernandez was seven months pregnant with a baby girl.
Rose is being held without bond, according to court records.
